Get Rid of the Block

I was breathing, flowing, grooving in Mysore class when a voice from above spoke to me.

Get rid of the block.

It was not the angel of the Lord but my cheetah-like teacherI was at Utthita ParsvakonasanaI had started using a block with this posture because I couldn’t reach the ground while keeping my chest open. To me, the posture required the block. I needed it.

But I was so surprised by his voice that I didn’t back talk or work through five stages of grief. I shoved the block out of the way, took a deep breath, put my hand on the ground, and stretched out into space.

Get rid of the block.
